IX | IXG Series Multicast Paging

Updated on April 2nd, 2026

Multicast paging allows an IX | IXG Series station to transmit a page to using an IP multicast. This allows the station to transmit the page to more than fifty stations at a time, which is the limit when unicast steams are used instead. Rather than transmitting multiple unicast streams directed to each end point, a single multicast stream is sent to all registered endpoints, saving bandwidth and improving scalability for large deployments.

Network Requirements

Required Capabilities:

  • The network infrastructure must support IP multicast routing and switching
  • Layer 2 multicast forwarding
  • IGMP support
  • Multicast traffic allowed between stations
  • IGMP snooping
  • Multicast filtering

VLAN Considerations:

All IX | IXG Series stations participating in multicast paging should typically be on the same VLAN, unless multicast routing is configured.
